Planning to bring your pet or support animal along for the journey?
It's important to be aware of the regulations for pets on board. Our guidelines are in place to ensure their safety and comfort throughout the flight.

Pets in the Cabin (PETC)

Sunrise Airways allows the transportation of domestic cats and small dogs, exclusively in the cabin, subject to specific regulations and limitations.

Pet size and in-cabin limit

Only 1 pet is allowed per flight, per passenger and per pet carrier. The service is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pet carrier requirements

Your pet and its carrier count as personal items. Their combined weight must not exceed 8 kg.

The animal must remain in its approved carrier, at the airport and on the plane.

Health and Documentation

For international flights, a veterinarian-issued health certificate, dated 15 days or more prior to departure, is mandatory. 

All vaccinations and necessary paperwork must be up to date.

Reservations and Fees

You are required to make a reservation for your pet in advance by contacting our Reservations Department via email

You must provide all necessary documents for travel approval. The reservation must be made no later than 48 hours before your trip.

The passenger must comply with all documents required to travel, both for departure and arrival destinations.

Some destinations may require additional documents. For more information, contact our Customer Service.

Sunrise Airways reserves the right to approve the carriage of pets if the passenger and/or pet does not comply with the rules and restrictions to complete their trip.

In the case of connecting or codeshare flights, it is the passenger's responsibility to ensure that the conditions for transporting animals are respected throughout the journey.

The fee for transporting pets is US$100 per way + taxes if applicable.

Behavioral Requirements

Your pet must be well-groomed and free from any unpleasant odors.

An adult passenger must accompany the animal at all times.

The passenger must comply with all documents required to travel, both for departure and arrival destinations.

Your pet is expected to be well-behaved and not disruptive during the flight.

Sunrise Airways may refuse to transport any pet that displays aggressive behavior.

We strongly advise against the use of tranquilizers on pets during travel.

Service and emotional assistance animals

Dogs and cats may be transported as emotional assistance animals and are limited to 1 animal per flight. These animals may be transported free of charge if the conditions of acceptance are met, and the required documentation is provided.

Service animal

A service animal is a fully trained animal that assists individuals with disabilities by performing specific tasks. These disabilities include but are not limited to: visual impairments, deafness, seizures, mobility impairments, post-traumatic stress disorder.

Emotional assistance animal

An emotional assistance animal (ESA) is a companion animal that provides emotional support to individuals with mental health conditions. Unlike service animals, ESAs do not require specialized training for tasks and are prescribed by mental health professionals to alleviate symptoms and provide therapeutic benefits to their owners.

Health and Documentation

The service must be requested at least 48 hours before departure and must be confirmed for acceptance. 

When requesting a reservation and when boarding, you must present a medical certificate on the letterhead of a mental health professional. The certificate must have the following requirements:

  • Include the full name of the patient and doctor.
  • Have been issued during the last 12 months.
  • Contain a diagnosis, which indicates that the animal is essential for the passenger.
  • Be signed by the doctor.
  • You must provide all animal health documents, up to date.
  • To validate the required documentation, Sunrise Airways reserves the right to contact the psychologist or psychiatrist. If we are unable to validate your supporting documentation, your animal may be considered a pet, in which case our pet policy will apply, with applicable fees. 
  • Passengers are responsible for all necessary documentation to ensure the departure and entry of their pet, transit, and destination cities of their trip. This includes any additional or special requirements or documents required by applicable laws and regulations in the countries of travel. 
  • For up-to-date information on documents required for travel, please contact the health authorities in each country.

On board

To comply with regulations, a strap or harness must be in place at the time of travel.

You must carry a muzzle on board to use on the animal, if needed. Carrier is not necessary for service animal.

During the flight, the passenger is responsible for the animal which must behave obediently throughout the trip. 

Service dogs are not permitted to occupy a seat or sit in an exit row. They must occupy the floor space at the feet of the responsible passenger.
